Creative Tool

The most important feature of the Irix 15mm f/2.4 lens is its focal length of 15 mm. This very short value allows you to record extremely wide frames, which is invaluable in landscape, interior, or architecture photography. This lens provides a wide field of view while maintaining proper perspective. This makes objects in the foreground appear larger and the background appear farther away. This is a great tool for photographers who want to experiment with perspective and create unique shots. What’s more, this lens is also great for Astrophotography, so you can capture beautiful nightscapes.

Bright f/2.4 aperture

Another advantage of the Irix 15mm f/2.4 lens is its f/2.4 aperture. This small aperture value allows you to capture images even in low light conditions. The open aperture allows more light to be transmitted, which in turn translates into bright and sharp images in all lighting conditions. It’s ideal for photographers working at night, indoors, or in other challenging lighting conditions.

Optics that guarantee sharp images

The design of the Irix 15mm f/2.4 lens is another noteworthy aspect. The whole lens has been designed with the highest image quality in mind. The optics consist of 15 elements arranged in 11 groups, including two aspherical elements and two elements made of low-dispersion glass. This design minimizes optical aberrations such as distortion and vignetting, resulting in high-resolution images with excellent sharpness and color fidelity. In addition, the lens is equipped with modern anti-reflective coatings that effectively reduce flare and flare effects, ensuring even higher image quality.

A Build You Can Trust

The Irix 15mm f/2.4 lens is also distinguished by its durability and solidity. It was created for difficult working conditions. It is resistant to dust, moisture, and changing weather conditions – thanks to this, you can successfully use it in any situation without fear of damage.

Additional Features

The “Click / Declick” switch – is a feature now available on Irix photographic lenses for the Sony system. Allows you to choose

between gradual and smooth iris ring operation.

Focus Lock – allows you to lock the focus ring in a specific position, which is extremely beneficial when you want to keep a specific focus plane i.e. in astrophotography, or when using the hyperfocal scale.

95mm front filter thread – allows you to use screw-in filters such as Irix Edge UV & Protector, Irix Edge Circular Polarizer, Irix Edge ND, and Irix Edge Light Pollution filter and others.

Compatible with Irix Edge IFH-100 Filter Holder – allows you to expand your creativity thanks to Gradual Neutral Density filters with different gradients: SoftHard and Reverse

Dragonfly version

The Irix 15mm lens is also characterized by a solid construction (Dragonfly finish version). The body is made of magnesium aluminum alloy combined with a high-quality composite. This ensures durability and resistance to weather conditions with relatively low weight. Dust and moisture resistance mean you can confidently use this lens outdoors, even in harsh atmospheric conditions.

Compatible with filters

What makes the Irix 15mm f/2.4 lens unique is the possibility of using both classic 95mm screw-on filters, as well as square filters, thanks to the Irix Edge IFH-100 holder!
Every landscape photographer uses filters – they allow a creative approach to photography, which makes them extremely practical. The filters that you can use with the Irix 15mm f/2.4 lens are all 95mm filters, such as the Irix Edge:
UV & Protector – protects your lens against damage
Circular Polarizer – cuts off unwanted reflections and increase the clarity of the photo
Neutral Density – decrease the amount of light reaching the camera sensor, thus allows, for example, creatively to blurs the motion in your photographs.
Light Pollution – cuts off the light of cities, making your night photos full of detail without a yellowish haze

Irix Edge IFH-100 Filter Holder allows you to expand your camera’s capabilities thanks to Gradual Neutral Density filters with different gradients: SoftHard and Reverse. By cutting off part of the light from the brightest part of the image, you can shoot even in the most difficult lighting conditions.

"Irix Fifrefly suprised me positively throught out the test period (...) I can easily say that Irix Firefly offers image quality in its price-range (approx. 450€ in Finland) and adding those new features like “Focus lock” and “Infinity click” makes it a solid performer. Highly recommended."

Spanish review:
"Mi nueva lente Irix 15mm f/2,4 Blackstone es de las mejores inversiones que he realizado nunca para el tipo de fotografías que suelo realizar, de paisajes, arquitectura, nocturnas, etc."

Outdoor Photographer

"Considering the lens as a whole—construction, design, optical performance and price—we like the Irix 15mm f/2.4 Blackstone. It’s a great value for photographers wanting to add an ultra-wide option to their kit but who aren’t able to justify paying three times (or more) of the Blackstone’s price for the first-party lens options."

Dustin Abbott

"The Irix Blackstone 15mm f/2.4 represents a great value for landscape (and even architectural) photographers on a budget, and, if you don’t mind a less pro-grade (Blackstone) build, the Firefly version can be had for under $500 USD while delivering an identical optical performance. There’s a lot to like here, and I look forward to seeing what Irix has to offer in the future."

Russian review:
"Эта линза прекрасно подойдет любителям архитектурной, интерьерной и пейзажной фотографии за счет своей резкости, геометрии и контраста. Репортажные фотографы, в свою очередь, оценят светосилу и подтверждение фокусировки по всем точкам в кадре. В целом, объектив оставил о себе очень хорошие впечатления, как по качеству выдаваемой картинки, так и по своему конструктиву."

Digital Camera World

"The Irix 15mm combines impressive handling and build quality with superb image quality, at a bargain price."

"If you're a landscape photographer, particularly if you shoot a lot of night skies or in low light conditions, then this would be a great lens for you. I'm telling you, the lock focus ring makes night shoots so incredibly smooth."

Andy Astburys' Photography Blog

"I will conclude my review of this lens on my return from the land of the Vikings, but suffice to say, at the moment I consider possession of this lens a complete NO-BRAINER."

Ken Rockwell

"It may be the sharpest fixed ultra-ultrawide lens I've ever tested.
It's ultrasharp and contrasty and devoid of spherical aberration and lateral color throughout the whole image even wide-open at f/2.4. (...)
If you're in the market for a fixed 15mm ultra ultrawide, this is probably your best buy."

Photography Blog

"The Irix 15mm f/2.4 is an excellent super-wide-angle prime lens that delivers very good image quality. Sharpness in the centre of the frame is excellent throughout the aperture range, even wide open at f/2.4, with f/4-f/11 producing the best results."

DNG Photo

Spanish review of the lens:
"• Construido para sobrevivir a todo tipo de abusos y circunstancias adversas.
• Excelente nitidez y contraste libre de aberraciones cromáticas incluso a máxima apertura.
• Excepcionalmente rectilinear.
• Muy buena sensación de uso.
• Protegido ante los elementos.
• Cuidadísima presentación y diseño."

The Digital Picture

"For the price, its value is easy to recognize. Getting a weather-sealed aluminum-magnesium lens barrel with decent image quality for a relatively low price puts this lens squarely on the consideration list. And for a new lens manufacturer, that is an impressive feat."

• Sellado contra el polvo y la humedad,
• Excelente rendimiento óptico,
• Prestaciones y accesorios."

Christopher Frost Photography

"Solid quality and handy features. A nice sharp lens which gives you punchy images without too much distortion. A classy, professional piece of kit for full-frame camera users at an affordable price so it comes recommended."

The review of the lens in the magazine from 12/2016
"Irix is a notable newcomer in the world of ultra-wide primes, blending Swiss design with Korean manufacture. [...] Excellent ergonomics round off an impressive package."

Digital Camera ES

Spanish review of the lens in the magazine from 11/2016:
"Un ultra gran angular que apenas deforme las imágenes es algo muy poco común y algo que sabrán valorar los amantes de la fotografía de paisajes."

"The Irix 15mm f/2.4 lens is a powerful photographic tool. This new lens from Irix lifts the performance for such lenses way beyond the first early 1970s offerings and gives us a lens that is free from flare, and very sharp. This Swiss design is an excellent one, built in Korea to very high standards."

"Много не нужно философствовать, но объектива, с фокусным расстоянием 15 мм на формате FF, который имеет превосходные корпус, механику и мало оптических искажений, отличную резкость, практически не имеет виньетирования и хроматических аберраций, хорошо контролируя при этом прямой и сильный боковой свет - скажем смело: до сих пор не существовало. Точка. "

Digital Rev

"I was incredibly surprised at the quality of the Irix and can easily say it is an excellent lens. Both of the “Firefly” and “Blackstone” versions are optically and mechanically sound. Their sharpness is fantastic, with distortion and vignetting very well controlled. There are no problems with chromatic aberration, and ghosting and flare are are kept in check. I really hope that Irix produce more lenses like this in future."

Digital Camera ES

Spanish review of the lens in the magazine from 10/2015:
"La calidad de imagen es excelente, sin aberraciones cromáticas, con una buena reproducción de los colores y deformando las imágenes mucho menos que casi todos los 15 mm que hemos tenido oportunidad de probar."
