Comes Fully-Equipped

Creative Tool

It doesn’t matter if you are a professional photographer looking for a lens for your next job, or an amateur looking to expand your focal range – the Irix 15mm f/2.4 is a right choice for every landscape photographer!

The Irix 15mm f/2.4 lens is an ultra wide-angle lens created for your full frame (35mm) camera, available in Nikon F, Canon EF, and Pentax K mounts.

This lens will allow you to open up to a completely new type of photography – thanks to the 110-degree field of view you will be able to capture eye-catching images, and the excellent optical properties will make the image sharp and full of details.

Optics that guarantee sharp images

Creativity, ideas, and effort put into a photograph would be nothing without the right lens. Thanks to many years of experience in optical design, Irix lenses are characterized by their excellent resolution and minimal distortion (2%) and almost no vignetting. The Irix 15mm f/2.4 lens consists of as many as 15 elements arranged in 11 groups: 3 high refractive elements, 2 ED elements and 2 aspherical elements. The focusing distance is only 28cm which, in combination with the f/2.4 light and 9 rounded aperture blades, make the lens stand out with extremely smooth bokeh with an amazing perspective.

You compose the frame – we will take care of the rest!

A Build You Can Trust

It doesn’t matter if you’re traversing the hot sands of the Sahara or the frigid expanse of Antarctica – Irix lenses never back down from any challenge.
The sealing system has been designed to protect the inside of the lens from moisture, dust, and sand. Equally important, the lens does not change its dimensions during focus pulling, eliminating the risk of dirt particles getting swept into the internal structure. These properties not only allow you to work in demanding conditions, but also guarantee the cleanliness of the camera’s mirror chamber sensor.

One Lens – Two Versions

The Irix 15mm f/2.4 comes in two verisons: Firefly and Blackstone.

Firefly – Lightweight composite construction, with an embossed rubber focus ring, allowing for smooth and precise focusing. Included with the lens is a soft pouch.

Blackstone – Reinforced full-metal construction. All lens markings are engraved and filled with a UV-reactive paint enabling easy focusing in dark enviornments. Included with the lens is a hard case.

Intelligent Lens Design

The Irix 15mm f/2.4 lens has a module that allows you to control the lens’ iris directly from the camera, thanks to which popular semi-automatic modes (PASM) and data recording in EXIF format are available.

The use of electronics also enable the lens to be equipped with a focus confirmation system – the camera will announce the correct focus setting (either in the form of an icon in the viewfinder or with a sound), every time you set the focus correctly – it’s easy and convenient!

It’s worth noting that Irix lenses have the appropriate correction profiles that are pre-loaded and readable by software (such as Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop), that will make your shooting experience even more enjoyable.

Additional Features

Click at infinity – enables precise, easy, and quick focusing. During focusing, you will feel the exact moment when your lens sets to infinity, which is extremely useful when shooting in difficult lighting conditions (i.e. at night).

Focus Lock – allows you to lock the focus ring in a specific position, which is extremely beneficial when you want to keep a specific focus plane i.e. in astrophotography, or when using the hyperfocal scale.

95mm front filter thread – allows you to use screw-in filters such as Irix Edge UV & Protector, Irix Edge Circular Polarizer, Irix Edge ND, and Irix Edge Light Pollution filter and others.

Compatible with Irix Edge IFH-100 Filter Holder – allows you to expand your creativity thanks to Gradual Neutral Density filters with different gradients: Soft, Hard and Reverse

Rear Gel filter slot – allows the use of Neutral Grey filters mounted on the rear of the lens, which is a unique feature of the Irix 15mm f/2.4 and Irix 11mm f/4.0 lenses.

Circular Polariser Adjustment Window – the lens hood is equipped with a sliding window, allowing you to freely rotate the polarizing filter without the risk of getting dirty.

Focus Calibration window – due to the specifics of focus detection in DSLR cameras based on phase detection,  it may sometimes happen that the lens needs to sync with the camera. Thanks to this special opening, you can easily calibrate the lens at home using basic tools within 5 minutes. Fast, simple and effective!

irix lense detail

Compatible with filters

What makes the Irix 15mm f/2.4 lens unique is the possibility of using both classic 95mm screw-on filters, as well as square filters, thanks to the Irix Edge IFH-100 holder!
Every landscape photographer uses filters – they allow a creative approach to photography, which makes them extremely practical. The filters that you can use with the Irix 15mm f/2.4 lens are all 95mm filters, such as the Irix Edge:
UV & Protector – protects your lens against damage
Circular Polarizer – cuts off unwanted reflections and increase the clarity of the photo
Neutral Density – decrease the amount of light reaching the camera sensor, thus allows, for example, creatively to blurs the motion in your photographs.
Light Pollution – cuts off the light of cities, making your night photos full of detail without a yellowish haze

Irix Edge IFH-100 Filter Holder allows you to expand your camera’s capabilities thanks to Gradual Neutral Density filters with different gradients: Soft, Hard and Reverse. By cutting off part of the light from the brightest part of the image, you can shoot even in the most difficult lighting conditions.

Perfect for night photography

Night photography is not only interesting but also highly rewarding – it allows you to easily create eye-catching images, if you have the right lens. The Irix 15mm f/2.4 is an irreplaceable tool for any astrophotographer – its fast aperture of f/2.4, combined with a short focal length allows you to capture spectacular shots of the night sky and the Milky Way.

The night is yours!

15mm – great lens. I am taking night shots and landscape and it has not disappointed.

A few years ago had the create a super size panorama of the Southern Hemisphere Night sky. To be printed at a diameter of 4 meter.
My Nikon D810E was up to it , but not the Sigma fish eye lens. So searched and found the IRIX 15mm 2.5 , it saved the day (night ?) The coma of the stars is … not there … chromatic aberrations is … not there , SHARP SHARP SHARP !! Like others said the build quality is superb. Setting and locking at infinity (very imporant with night photography – a god-send.
In short: A much overlooked lens that made me sell a big job even better.

This review is from the Amazon store:
“I LOVE the way this lens feels! Solid build and smooth focus. Upgraded to the Irix 15mm from a Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 and couldn’t be happier. The focus has a small stop or indent at infinity which I have found very accurate for astrophotography. No more hunting for infinity with my old Rokinon 14mm! My new Irix Blackstone arrived packaged in a metal box inside of the cardboard box AND included a nice protective travel case”

This review is from the Amazon store:
“Did an interior architecture shoot this weekend with a D800. Using infinity focus and f8, I was able to get great edge to edge sharpness with little distortion and vignetting. The colour rendition was well balanced. The corrections in Lightroom were minor. Actually great Bokeh wide open on close ups. Great lens”

ICPix

This review is from the Amazon store:
“Build quality is superb. Smooth focus with clicks in at infinity. Very sharp lens out to the corners. Distortion is very well controlled. Little bit of vignetting but not bad. Easily fixable in post processing, if necessary. Very easy to use, for most my shots I set it on at infinity and set the aperture more than f5.6 to get every things in focus”

Michael

This review is from the Amazon store:
“A few years ago I went into real estate photography (not expensive ones). Very soon I realized that my Tamron 15-30/2.8 has very plaguy restrictions. It’s too narrow for tiny toilets, and its distortion at 15mm kills the picture. The first problem was solved with the purchase of IRIX 11mm. After couple months of testing, I found the Irix quality totally satisfy my needs. Then I proceed with Irix 15/2.4. Again, no complains. Personally, I’m not a fun of manual lens (problems with eyes), but it’s OK for tripod shooting. This lens gives no distortion and very sharp (f11-f16, as recommended for architecture)”

Victor

This review is from the Amazon store:
“After reading a number of reviews on this lens I decided to get this for Astro photography. I havent really had an opportunity to use it for that purpose but it has proved to be a sharp lens. The build of the Firefly is good but not great and seems a bit tight when mounting on my D750. The lens hood leaves something to be desired feeling plasticy and so tight that you fear you may break it trying to put it on and take it off. Overall once on and locked at desired focal length, the lens works nicely and is extremely sharp even at f/2.4 and much better at f/4 with improvements seen on the outside edges. Worth the money but I might have gone for the Blackstone just on build quality and fit alone”

Andrew

This review is from the Amazon store:
“Great lens for the price, very sharp, fantastic perspective”

The Super Duper Super-wide Lens
On a recent outing with my full frame Pentax K1 I had hoped that my current Lens, a 24-70mm zoom lens, would be sufficient to capture everything I wanted but, much to my chagrin, was greatly mistaken. Yes, the individual photos turned out alright but with a super wide angle lens they could have been great. The Lens I really wanted was a super-wide zoom but I was not willing to pay the $2000 price tag which came with it for a lens I seldom use. Enter the Irix 15mm F/2.4 Firefly. Because it is a prime lens distortion is very well controlled without any curved lines when they should be straight. At F/2.4 it is relatively fast compared to other lenses and I was impressed with my indoors test shots without flash in low light. In outdoor settings the F-stop can be slightly higher for added depth of field without compromising shutter speed. The manual focus works well and the infinity stop is just soft enough to be noticed without creating additional camera shake when speed is of the essence. I find that the infinity setting works for most situations unless i’m shooting very close in and all my test shots came out clean and crisp. So much for the full frame review. When mounted on cameras with a C-sized sensor the lens converts into a 22.5mm prime lens with all the afore mentioned attributes. To put it into words everyone can understand: I received two lenses for the price of one. I give the lens 5 stars all the way for the price I paid and for what I use it.

"Considering the lens as a whole—construction, design, optical performance and price—we like the Irix 15mm f/2.4 Blackstone. "The Irix Blackstone 15mm f/2.4 represents a great value for landscape (and even architectural) photographers on a budget, and, if you don’t mind a less pro-grade (Blackstone) build, the Firefly version can be had for under $500 USD while delivering an identical optical performance. There’s a lot to like here, and I look forward to seeing what Irix has to offer in the future."
