The role of the UV filter is – as the name suggests – to eliminate the effects of ultraviolet light that have a negative impact on the colours in the photograph. This was especially important in analogue photography, because the photosensitive material was extremely sensitive to UV rays, which could have destroyed the impact on the final image. In an era of digital photography, this effect is much less (some cameras are more sensitive, just as some lenses are particularly “willing” to transmit UV light) but still noticeable – in particular, in the mountains or by the sea, where the amount of UV light is particularly high and which may adversely affect the colours and exposure of our photographs.
The Irix Edge UV & Protector filter is a special line of filters that have been developed based on the needs of demanding users. Thanks to the multilayer structure based in the optical glass, they allow you to confidently protect the front element of lens, even in extreme conditions. For example, when shooting special World Rally Car sections (WRC), cross-country competitions – or even in more difficult mountain trips – during which you can hit something, so there is a chance of damaging the lens. Remember that it’s better to change the filter than the front element in the lens: the price is usually the price of one zero difference and more.
